Values-in-Action (VIA) Project with ACS Independent (2024)
Thankful for a 2nd year of partnership with ACSI Independent with their Community Education and Engagement Department and Humanities Department. This year another class of Year 3 students went through our in-class workshop and our learning journey as part of their Humanities exposure programme to understand the migrant worker community. The 4-month long programme ended of with a time of outing to Gardens by the Bay with a group of injured workers from SG Accident Help Centre.
JULY 2024:
IN-CLASS WORKSHOP & LEARNING JOURNEY
The entire class of 25 students participated in a 2-hour workshop that explored the motivations behind migration and addressed common societal misconceptions about migrant workers. The class followed up their classroom learning with a learning journey to Little India/Farrer Park. An injured migrant worker, Alamgir shared his experiences, allowing the students to gain a deeper understanding of the workers' dreams and plans for the future.
“If someone is prejudiced against migrant workers, I would share how they are also just like us with dreams and aspirations and that we should not marginalised them”
OCT 2024:
VIA TRAINING & EXECUTION OF VIA PROJECT
Two months before their event, the students participated in a one-hour virtual VIA training session to improve their communication and planning skills. Combining these newly acquired skills with their leadership abilities, the students successfully organized a visit to Gardens by the Bay and a dinner event with live music, creating a meaningful experience for the migrant workers.
